Gina Alajar holds acting workshop

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Actor. Director. Teacher. Gina Alajar is now all three. And she shines in all. As actor, her accomplishments are formidable. The films she had vivified with her performance are now part of our collective cinematic memory: Salome, Moral, Brutal, Mulanay, Kapit Sa Patalim, Biktima, Kaya Kong Abutin Ang Langit, Andrea, to name a few.

As director, she has helmed a number of TV shows that turned top-raters, the most recent of which is the youth-oriented show Tween Hearts on GMA 7.

This time, Gina tries her hand in teaching, taking time out from her hectic schedule to turn regular students into actors in an eight-Saturday acting workshop. To be sure, Gina is familiar with mounting workshops, having conducted a good number. But those were workshops for colleagues in the industry, or for acting hopefuls attached to TV networks or film production outfits. This is the first time she will be handling a workshop within the context of the academe, working on participants with no acting experience and requiring only a deep-seated interest in the craft, to start with.

Gina’s school-based acting workshop is under the Learn From The Experts program of The Center for Media Arts of St. Joseph’s College of Quezon City. Other workshops being offered alongside the acting module are Screenplay Writing by Roy Iglesias, Digital Film Directing by Ralston Jover, Production Design for Events by Rollie de Leon, Writing the Novel by Gilda Olvidado and Commercial and Ramp Modeling by Cristina Suzette del Rosario.

All workshops are now ongoing. For details, call 721-5051 or 0918-8226715 or visit St. Joseph’s College at E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue, beside St. Luke’s Hospital.
