Cesar: Sunshine over-reacted

- Ricky Lo -

In yesterday’s issue, Sunshine Cruz admitted that she was the actress-wife referred to in a Funfare “blind item” as having left home in the afternoon of Christmas Day with her three daughters after a fight with her husband, Cesar Montano, allegedly over a 16-year-old Brazilian model Cesar was “crazy” about.

“All I want is a little respect,” said Sunshine without elaborating, refusing to comment on the matter any further even as she said that, it’s true, she and her kids are now staying with her mom who, along with her brother, fetched Sunshine at her and Cesar’s home in Quezon City.

First thing yesterday morning, Funfare Update got a call from Cesar who wanted to air his side.

Here’s what he has to say:

You know, every Christmas and New Year, Shine seems to have this panata yata (vow) to pick a fight with me. It has been happening in all the eight years that we’ve been married. Her mom knows about it; you can ask her. Haven’t you noticed, inaaway niya ako towards the end of each year?

Look, sira ba ang ulo ko to get involved with a 16-year-old girl? Am I a drunkard? Am I a drug addict? That Brazilian model is 16 although she looks bigger than her age. She may be pretty but am I out of my mind na papatulan ko ‘yon? Minor ‘yon; magkakakaso ako n’un.

Yes, I know the model. You see, I have this script which I’ve been keeping for more than 10 years. When I saw the girl, I thought that she was perfect for the role. It’s a script for an indie film at hindi ako puwede kumuha ng big star. What I wanted is a newcomer, so I recommended her as a female lead.

She’s one of the Brazilian models who come and go. I heard that she has a Korean boyfriend. She and her (Brazilian friends) are out of the country now and they’ll be back after the New Year. I can ask her to speak up on national television and she will tell the whole world that I never touched her, not even the tip of her finger...that I never courted or flirted with her.

Shine is over-reacting as she often does when she gets jealous. She’s reacting as if she has caught me in the act, as if I have gotten the girl pregnant. Hindi totoo lahat ‘yon. She’s imagining things, as usual, making such a big fuss over nothing. She has no reason to be jealous, to get mad at me.

The trouble with Shine is that she believes people around her more than me. May mga barkada siya na nagpo-poison ng mind niya. If her barkada were well-meaning, Shine wouldn’t be acting and reacting that way.

Isipin mo, ha, I’m her husband and she can’t ask me directly about whatever is fed to her; she’d rather listen to people who pretend to be her friends but who are actually giving her the wrong advice, who are out to create intrigue between us.

I told her, ‘You don’t know what you’re talking about! You don’t have any reason to be mad about!’ She continued to nag me, calling me on my cell phone. She became all the more suspicious when I didn’t answer her calls; naglaro na kaagad ang kanyang imagination. How could I? We were taping for Palos, my new show on ABS-CBN, and we were up until 5 a.m. I was tired and sleepy and all I wanted was to finish my scenes and go home. Naturally, since we were shooting, I had to put my phone on ‘silent’ mode. So how could I answer her?

Anyway, Cesar said that their “separation” is a non-issue, but merely an offshoot of Sunshine’s annual “panata” to rattle him as the year ends.

By the time this piece is out, Cesar shall have, hopefully, fetched Sunshine and their daughters from her mom’s house and brought them back home.

Now, if their neighbors hear any form of explosion on New Year’s Eve, they should rest assured that Cesar and Sunshine are not fighting but just celebrating the coming of the new year with some harmless, little firecrackers, merrily ringing out the old and ringing in the new.
