Angat Dam water level nearing 190 meters

MANILA, Philippines — The water level in Angat Dam in Bulacan has continued to improve, rising above its minimum operating level of 180 meters, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

PAGASA said that as of 8 a.m. yesterday, the water level in Angat was at 189.9 meters, or up by 1.15 from the previous day’s 188.75 meters.

Angat supplies more than 90 percent of Metro Manila’s potable water needs, provides irrigation water for palay farms in Central Luzon and generates power for the Luzon grid.

Other major dams in Luzon including Ipo, also located in Bulacan, opened their spillway gates to discharge water.

Operators of Ipo Dam reduced the reservoir’s elevation by seven centimeters.

Ambuklao and Binga, both located in Benguet, discharged water by 27 and 49 centimeters, respectively.

Other dams – San Roque in Pangasinan, Pantabangan in Nueva Ecija and Magat in Isabela – recorded a slight increase in their elevations with 64, 52 and 23 centimeters, respectively.

The elevation in La Mesa Dam in Quezon City slightly decreased from 79.86 to 79.59 meters.
