MANILA, Philippines — RS Components has announced the expansion of its IO-Link compatible hardware and ancillary product range, increasing its inventory by more than four times.

IO-Link will play a key role in the development of solutions based around Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) concepts. This marks the first standardized IO technology (to IEC 61131-9) for communication with sensors and actuators.

The simple but powerful IO-Link concept represents a huge milestone in sensor technology for industrial customers. Its flexibility and its standardization on M5, M8 and M12 connectors present machine and panel builders, designers, research and development engineers, and maintenance personnel with a myriad of advantages. Most IO-Link devices are equipped with M12 connectors that can be used without restrictions for IO-Link's switching and communication modes.

IO-Link’s Fieldbus independent, point-to-point communication is based on long-established three-wire sensor and actuator connections without additional requirements regarding the cable material. The standard was created by leading sensor manufacturers including SICK, OMRON, ifm technology, BALLUFF, Baumer, Rockwell Automation and Pepperl + Fuchs.

IO-Link Master ports are capable of processing binary switching signals and analog values, with serial IO-Link communication taking place via the same port. For engineers, this means easier wiring, automated parameter-setting and extended diagnosis.

IO-Link has major applications in motion control, robotics, machine safety and process solutions, and more. Industries such as food and beverage, packaging, assembly solutions and transportation are expected to benefit from the standard.
