Sony PlayStation3, PSP make much-awaited local debut

- Manny N. de los Reyes -

MANILA, Philippines - It’s official. The country is now a PlayStation nation, as Sony Philippines brings the iconic PlayStation into the local market.

The world’s most popular computer entertainment systems and services will now be officially available to PlayStation fans and consumers in the country.

Sony Philippines jumpstarted the local gaming scene at the recent launch held at the Glorietta Activity Center as it focused the spotlight on the PlayStation3 (PS3) computer entertainment system and its handheld counterpart, the PSP (PlayStationPortable).

The PS3 retails P18,999 for the 120GB model and P20,999 for the 250GB model. The PSP-3006, meanwhile, retails for P9,999.

The PS3 system offers cutting-edge features and functions such as the ability to enjoy high-definition Blu-ray disc (BD) movies and PS3 games as well as connectivity to the Internet.

The latest models of PS3 system with 120GB or 250GB HDD allow users to store many entertainment content such as games, music, photos and movies.

While inheriting the sleek curved body design of the original model, the latest PS3 system features a meticulous design with textured surface finish, giving a casual, all-new look.

The PSP system has been gaining enthusiastic support from users worldwide. Offering the highest-level contrast ratio, response time, and wider color gamut possible on a portable LCD screen, the PSP is capable of displaying movies and photos in more natural and vibrant colors on its high-resolution, 4.3-inch widescreen display.

The LCD screen adopts an anti-reflection technology, which enables users to see the screen more clearly in well-lit places, even when used outdoors.

The PSP-3006 will be available in piano black, pearl white, mystic silver, and the carnival colors: radiant red and vibrant blue.

With the launch of the PlayStation platforms, users in the Philippines will be able to enjoy a wide variety of entertainment content including games, music and movies on the popular entertainment systems.

Along with a vast line-up of attractive and exciting entertainment content with PS3 and PSP, Sony Philippines will continue to further expand the PlayStation platforms and create a new world of computer entertainment.

The local launch continues the evolution of the much-anticipated 3D World created by Sony. With its headstart and experience in both technology and content, Sony is able to bring a complete 3D experience in the Philippines.

Anticipation is high as Sony gave consumers a preview of its much-vaunted 3D technology during the PlayStation launch, with a set-up of its Bravia LX900 and PS3 rigged to deliver fully immersive 3D action.

The event also underscored Sony as the only consumer electronics brand with a full arsenal of products supporting 3D content.

Excitement was further amped with activities such as a Cosplay Fashion Show, a Cosplay Battlefield Competition, a Playstation Race, a PSP Ridge Racer 7 competition, and a PSP Tekken Resurrection Network Battle, among others, all of which brought out the Philippine gaming scene’s most passionate followers.

The PlayStation rollout made several fans into newly minted PlayStation owners, as Sony Philippines gave away consoles as part of its series of games and competitions.

Sony Music talents like Letter Day Story, Callalily, and Pupil entertained the audience, composed of hard-core gamers and gaming fans, technology enthusiasts, and families looking to have a fun time.

PlayStation gaming and handheld consoles will be available at Sony Centers in Park Square, Gateway, Megamall, TriNoma, Shangri-La, Ermita, and Festival Mall, and in the Sony Experience Corner at Anson’s Makati Avenue.
