Most trusted brand

The nation’s leader in paint, Pacific Paints (Boysen) Philippines highlights more than 50 years of excellence by bagging the Reader’s Digest Asia Trusted Brand Platinum Award.

The award was based on a comprehensive survey of Filipino consumers who were asked to rank brands in six qualitative criteria: trustworthiness, credible image, quality, value, understanding of customer needs, and innovation. Boysen was one of only four brands in the country who received a Platinum status during the awarding ceremony held at the Manila Peninsula in Makati. Platinum status is a recognition given to brands which score at least three times more than that of their nearest competitor.

"A brand is a promise of value, and it is very gratifying to know that with this award, the Filipino consumer has affirmed that Boysen Paints has kept its promise of delivering the best value in premium quality paints," said Willy Ong, president of Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines, Inc, which is ranked as one of the top 50 paint companies in the world by the Coatings Agenda Asia Pacific. "Filipino consumers, who are among the most value conscious in the world, are certainly getting their money’s worth every time they buy a can of Boysen paint."

In fact, it can be argued that Boysen, which is the brand of choice by about seven percent of Filipino paint consumers, is providing Filipino consumers with the best value in premium quality paint in the world. According to the same report in the Coatings Agenda Asia Pacific, Boysen products are the lowest priced among products sold by the top 50 paint companies in the world. Yet the quality of Boysen products are at par with the best paint products in the world, as evidenced by the company’s strong performance in export markets where they compete against Western brands. A striking fact among global paint industry observers in that the over 70 percent of its latex paint sold in the Philippines uses 100 percent acrylic binders, one of the highest, if not the highest ratio in the world. Such binders are generally regarded by paint technologists as the highest quality latex technology, and are more expensive than other alternative. Yet due to the dominant presence of Boysen’s 100 percent acrylic Permacoat latex line, the Philippine paint market has a higher percentage share of 100 percent acrylic latex paint than even developed countries like the United States, despite the fact that the Philippines has a GDP per capita of a little over $1,000 compared to over $42,000 for the United States.

Boysen has also been the industry leader in product innovation, particularly in environmentally friendly technologies. It introduced the first mercury free latex paints in the country, and has been selling lead free latex paints for decades. It pioneered new water based applications in Southeast Asia such as Primeguard®, the region’s first water-based metal primer, and Acqua Epoxy®, its first water-based acrylic epoxy paint. Most recently, it launched the first luxury paint in the Filipino market - Virtuoso Silk Touch, which incorporates DuPont’s Teflon non-stick technology to create a revolutionary breakthrough paint product that uniquely combines long lasting elegance and easy clean ability.
