Business As Usual

Inspiring a new generation of leaders

-

MANILA, Philippines - Like a game of basketball, winning a game is important for a business to succeed. And to win a game, everyone should have their eye on the prize and every player must be determined to win. Business also becomes more relevant if it has heart and people behind it are passionate about the community, their fellowmen, and the country. These are just some words of wisdom imparted by top CEOs during the recent First Pacific Human Resource Congress held at the Meralco Development Center in Antipolo.

The top CEOs, led by First Pacific Executive Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan, stressed the importance of time-honored values such as honesty, integrity and respect as qualities that must define a leader CEO.

“A leader should be someone who is honest and transparent on various issues. The leader must be trusted and respected. With that, the leader becomes credible. With credibility, the leader can build a culture of excellence which resonates a winning attitude to the entire organization,” said Pangilinan, as he addressed the crowd of more than 200 composed of HR and CSR leaders and executives from the First Pacific Company Limited, one of the largest and most successful business conglomerates in the world.

Together with Pangilinan are other leaders noted for their ability to inspire people and to transform any organizations they manage from better to best. They include Oscar S. Reyes, COO of Meralco; Jose Ma. K. Lim, CEO of Metro Pacific Investments Corp.; Ricky P. Vargas, CEO of Maynilad; Augusto Palisoc Jr., Executive Director of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. Hospitals Group; and Ramon S. Fernandez, CEO of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp.

Aside from inspiring the participants to bring “their business to the next level”, the CEOs also encouraged them to “show the world what Filipinos can do” and be involved in nation-building.

Ideal venue

“We are honored to be the venue and event managers of a very important gathering. The congress theme, ‘Convergence of First Pacific and the National Human Resource Agenda’, aims to influence the formulation of a national HR agenda that will focus on people issues that are of utmost priority. One of the highlights of the Congress was the CEO Forum and the participants have informed us that they learned a lot from the CEO-speakers,” said Agnes Fidelino, Executive Director of Meralco Development Center. She said that the HR heads of PLDT, PLDT Global, Indofood, Philex Mining, Smart, Meralco, Maynilad, Metro Pacific Tollways, TV5, ePLDT, SPI Global, Makati Medical Center, Cardinal Santos Medical Center, Riverside Medical Center, Davao Doctors Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital have consolidated visionary goals and streamlined their processes of leadership succession.

Aside from the teambuilding program, the Meralco Development Center offers a customized learning and training program upon assessment of a client’s needs based on their own set of values, culture and goals. By taking into account the needs of the clients, the Center optimizes the learning experience. Elevating learning to a higher level and more attuned to the digital era, the Center also offers the ‘blended approach’ to e-learning: a combination of corporate e-training lessons and visually-appealing interactive activities that gauge learner apprehension. The e-learning courses are customized based on the company’s need to make training effective yet convenient for both the trainer and the trainee.
