MoneyGram expands remittance reach with Globe

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - MoneyGram, one of the biggest money transfer companies in the world, has entered into an agreement with Globe Telecom’s mobile commerce subsidiary G-Xchange Inc. (GXI) making money transfers or remittances more accessible.

With the partnership, Filipinos overseas can send money in MoneyGram’s locations all over the globe and have their beneficiaries pick up the cash at GCashRemit outlets in the Philippines – starting out with the Globe stores and eventually expanding to include other GCASH Remit outlets like pawnshops, rural banks, and community stores.

MoneyGram country manager Alex Lim said that thousands of Filipinos overseas can send money to the Philippines using it’s 310,000 retail agent locations in more than 197 countries.

“Through this strategic alliance, we are able to increase our reach in the Philippines thus helping us expand our money transfer services around the world,” Lim added.

GXI president Paolo Baltao meanwhile explained that the partnership reinforces how global money transfer companies have seen and acknowledged the value offered by Globe GCash.

“We want to make sure that Filipinos who rely on remittances from their loved ones overseas will get their money fast and securely without any hassle. Filipinos overseas already worked so hard to earn the money they send,” Baltao added.

MoneyGram is one of the leading international money transfer companies which enables consumers who are not fully served by traditional financial institutions to meet their financial needs.

It offers bill payment services in the United States and Canada and money transfer services worldwide through a global network of more than 310,000 agent locations – including retailers, international post offices and financial institutions – in 197 countries and territories.

GXI is a leader in mobile commerce (m-comerce) and a fully-owned subsidiary of Globe Telecom, which is one of the leading full service telecommunications company in the Philippines.

GXI pioneered the mobile commerce service called GCash, which is an internationally-acclaimed mobile commerce service allowing Globe and TM subscribers to send and receive cash conveniently anytime and anywhere.  It delivers over one single platform the three major cash transactions of purchase and payments, person-to-person (P2P) transactions, and domestic and international remittances.
