MANILA, Philippines — Snack foods giant Monde Nissin Corp. expects to complete its capacity expansion in Davao next year.

The company is pouring in P1.2 billion for the expansion, which will include a bakery and biscuits facility for brands like Butter Coconut and Monde Mamon.

Monde Nissin has an existing manufacturing plant in Davao which has been supplying the region with Lucky Me! noodle products for over a decade.

For its ongoing expansion, Monde Nissin is building a new facility in Brgy. Ilang, Davao City. The new bakery plant will have nine ancillary structures, according to its construction partner, Aboitiz Construction, which has partnered with Monde Nissin to construct the facility.

Aboitiz Construction is the construction arm of Cebu-based conglomerate Aboitiz Group.

The expanded plant is expected to contribute to the bottom line of Monde Nissin by February 2024, in time for the company’s 45th anniversary, Monde Nissin officials said.

Furthermore, the project is poised to improve Monde facilities and strengthen the snack company’s commitment to enhancing food security in the region and providing local job opportunities, the proponents said.

Aboitiz Construction will spearhead the different tasks needed namely earthworks, structural and architectural requirements to build the ancillary structures. Simultaneously, the external works include civil works, site development, and building of roads and drainage.

The establishment of the new facilities will also help strengthen Monde’s sustainability commitment of making eco-efficiency possible and making better food accessible to its consumers, Aboitiz Construction said.

Integral to this project is Aboitiz Construction’s ongoing involvement with Monde Nissin site and foundation works, a contract secured in June 2023.

This phase includes various site development activities covering an expansive area of over 18,000 square meters, preparing the ground for the bakery plant’s expansion.

“We are very thrilled to start a new construction project with Monde Nissin Corp., one of our valued repeat clients. This collaboration stands as a testament to the trust and confidence they have in our capabilities. As we embark on this journey, we will ensure to bring our expertise, dedication, and teamwork to the forefront once again,” said Aboitiz Construction vice president for business development construction Levi Agoncillo.

Monde Nissin has two core businesses, the Asia-Pacific branded food and beverage business and the meat alternative business.

Some of its popular brands are Lucky Me!, SkyFlakes, Fita, and Mama Sita’s. The meat alternative business meanwhile has the Quorn and Cauldron brands.

Its subsidiaries are Monde Nissin Singapore Pte. Ltd., Monde M.Y. San Corp. and Monde Nissin International Investments Ltd.
