Shell receives reg’l, global citations

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Various communications programs of Shell companies in the Philippines (SciP) were recently recognized by two of the most prestigious and foremost industry organizations in the region and in the world.

Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. (PSPC)’s “I-Commit. Think. Act. Work With Integrity” internal communications campaign competed against 160 firms around the globe to be recognized as one of 20 excellent employee engagement programs at the 2013 Strategic Communication Management (SCM) Awards in London, the United Kingdom.

The SCM Awards is part of the annual industry summit organized by global internal communications organization Melcrum. PSPC’s winning campaign was launched to imbue personal and business integrity across the entire company-focusing on the role of each Shell employee in upholding honesty, integrity and respect, transparency and fairness in all business dealings.

At the same awards, SciP country media relations and internal communications manager Ron Jabal was recognized as one of the Top 8 Internal Communicators of 2013, for his outstanding body of work, competency, work ethics, and exemplary efforts in delivering communications excellence for Shell.

SciP also garnered various honors at the 2013 Gold Standard Awards organized by Public Affairs Asia, a regional industry publication and network of communications professionals. SciP country chairman Edgar O. Chua was a finalist for the Communicator of the Year award, while PSPC vice president for communications Roberto Kanapi was shortlisted for the Prospect Gold Standard Award for Professional Excellence.

PSPC’s communications team was also declared finalist for the Gold Standard Award for In-House Team of the Year, while the Movement Against Malaria (MAM) social development program was cited in the category of NGO (non-government organization) Engagement.

MAM is a nationwide malaria prevention and elimination program in the Philippines implemented by Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. in partnership with the Department of Health and local government units. MAM paved the way in attaining the country’s Millennium Development Goals in halting and reversing the burden of malaria in the country way before the 2015 target.

“This is truly an honor for Shell and also serves as a motivation for us to work harder in implementing noteworthy programs that will contribute to nation-building, as well as further promote our sustainable development advocacies and programs,” said Kanapi.
