IT-BPM sector vows to deliver $25-B revenues by 2016

MANILA, Philippines - Major players in the information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) are confident of delivering the $25-billion promised revenues and employment for 1.3 million workers by 2016.

“To reach our 2016 targets, we reiterate that it is imperative that we sustain and strengthen the work we are doing with government. We have received impressive support from President Aquino and his teams in the executive branch and we were able to pass key legislation needed by the industry,” Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBAP) president and chief executive officer Jomari Mercado said.

Mercado reported that the industry’s revenues jumped 19 percent to $13.2 billion and generated 137,066 new jobs, bringing the number of employees of the IT-BPM industry to 776,794 in 2012.

 â€œThis is well within the level required to keep the industry on track to hit its accelerated revenue target of $25 billion by 2016. This number keeps us on target to reach 1.3 million in employment by 2016,” Mercado said.

Data reported by IBPAP and its partner associations show that the healthcare information management (HIM) sector had the largest increase in employment.

The Healthcare Information Management Outsourcing Association of the Philippines (HIMOAP), led by president Juanloz Botor, reported employment of 45,000 in the sector or 80 percent more employees in 2012 while revenues grew 66 percent to $460 million.

On the other hand, Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP) president Alvin Juban reported that the sector increased more than three times in terms of revenues with $50 million and generated 1,000 new jobs, bringing to 3,500 the industry’s total workforce.

The Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP), led by Benedict Hernandez, reported an 18 percent increase in revenues to $8.7 billion and a 19 percent rise in the number of employees to 497,000.

 â€œThe Philippine contact center sector is still the largest in the world and remains the destination of choice for customer relations management,” Mercado said.

Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA) president Nora Terrado said the industry earned $1.16 billion in revenues and employed 57,078 last year while Animation Council of the Philippines Inc. (ACPI) president Benjamin Marasigan Jr. reported that a three percent rise in revenues to $132 million and four percent increase in workforce to 9,000.

The engineering services outsourcing (ESO) sector reported a 20 percent increase in revenues to $206 million and number of workers to 10,836.

IBPAP senior executive director Gillian Virata said corporate services that includes knowledge process outsourcing and back-office services grew 20 percent to $2.5 billion in revenues and 154,380 workers.
