Battle for postpaid subscribers heats up

Lawrence Agcaoili - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The battle for the postpaid segment between rivals Smart Communications Inc. of dominant carrier PLDT and Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. continued to heat up through the launch of new plans for subscribers.

Orlando Vea, chief wireless advisor of Smart, said in a statement that the company is launching a new set of postpaid offers called Flexibundles aimed at giving subscribers better control of their usage through a simple process.

“These Flexibundles give Smart Postpaid subscribers greater control over their plans, enabling them to design their plans to suit their needs. And they can do this in a way that is easy to understand and simple to use,” Vea stressed.

Smart’s postpaid subscriber base stood at 800,000 in end-March after adding almost 84,000 postpaid subscribers in the first quarter of the year. The PLDT’s mobile postpaid subscriber base stood at 2.1 million or 53 percent of the total postpaid market.

“We are keen to keep growing our postpaid business because this is how we can help unlock the potential of mobile data and make it more relevant and more beneficial to our subscribers,” he added.

He pointed out that the main drivers of growth for Smart’s postpaid service include PLDT’s superior network as well as a range of innovative plans bundled with powerful.

Meanwhile, Globe has launched the best-ever MySuperPlan, a next-generation postpaid plan with new features that would allow subscribers to further customize and personalize their postpaid plans.

With the best-ever MySuperPlan, subscribers could get more than what they pay for with a plan value that is almost twice the value of prepaid load.

Each plan has a corresponding ‘peso value’ that could be converted to avail of a combination of call, text or surf services, free or discounted gadgets, and a monthly consumable amount for more calls, texts, and surf.

With a monthly ‘peso value’ allocated for each plan, subscribers can avail of combo services and gadgets with corresponding peso values deductible from the total peso value amount of each plan.
