The 'anti-big blow dry' and other hair looks to have now

MANILA, Philippines - Dive into the four key trends ruling the hair styles for spring/summer 2012 with inspirations and tips from hair gurus Eugene Souleiman, global creative director of Wella Professionals, (who did 31 shows during S/S Fashion Week) and Josh Wood, global creative director of Wella Professionals.

Sand Dunes: Seamlessly natural and luxurious

An homage to the environment using rich, sensual colors for a more natural beauty with a sense of fluidity. It’s all about noble simplicity and raw forms.

Inspired by: DKNY, Etro, or at Chloe, where the look was “sexy, gorgeous, fresh, raw, young, and healthy” with product-less coifs meant to look like “French Vogue fashion editors.” For the Chloe girls, Eugene used only water and shampoo, he said, lathering strands with Wella Enrich Volume Shampoo or Brilliance line for dry, color-treated manes. “I wanted the hair to be light and free so it moved.”

How to: “A return to precision color” and layering of color. Slightly darker tones are incorporated to give a natural contrast to the hair so it looks luxuriously natural, healthy and shiny. More elegant than in the past, with natural shine. The “anti-big blow dry,’’ which is “done but does not look done.” This is how a modern woman wants to look. You can just spritz hair with ocean spritz for soft volume and rawness. 

Beauty Graffiti: Free spirited street style

Considered one of the defining modern hair fashion looks, this look has a fresh and timeless quality to it. It’s modern and artistic and characterized by a free-spirited vibe.

 Inspired by: “Festival glamour” at the DSquared show, where the theme was Glastonbury and a young, fresh and natural feel. Narciso Rodriguez, defined by a small head but with playful color. It’s also a dawn of a new age of color, “almost like fondant colors” such as linen, periwinkle, vanilla and primrose, as used in the Louis Vuitton show where hair was starched

How to: Rebellious with a sense of carefree adventure. Tousled hair that looks naturally gorgeous but with a laidback feel. You can just wash it and condition it, and let it hang. This is the sort of “stylishly unstyled look for models and celebs.” You can also use a curling iron for long, loose wavy hair. The use of bright color in that pop of neon is optional, but this look is perfect for street style.

Visible Aura: Light and otherworldly

This trend is characterized by using air and light for holistic well-being in body, mind and spirit. It’s about pure lines and subtle transparency.

How to: Lighter shapes, straight or wavy angelic curls to project a child-like innocence and uncomplicated freshness. Random braids pinned in place, pulled-out wisps of hair to frame the face and add a touch of softness.

Tango: Uber feminine and dramatic

The focus is on graphic, dramatic and bold colors with strong pinks in cosmetics and dark shades in hair. Celebrating the vision of a super confident woman epitomized by a fiery-natured Latin-influenced seductress.

For hair: Showcases hair stylists' technical skills. High drama and precisely groomed updos to enhance strong facial features using a darker, bolder palette with shades in aubergine accents.
