How to get away with wearing tulle in your 30s

STYLE S.O.S. - Lucy Torres-Gomez, Rissa Mananquil-Trillo - The Philippine Star

Dear Lucy,

I am attending a wedding and as part of the secondary sponsors, I am required to wear a gown made of tulle. We were provided with fabric, but the style is up to us. My problem is I find tulle too sweet — like sugar-sweet, flower-girl sweet. I am in my early 30s. How do I get away with wearing tulle and not look like I am stuck in some youth I no longer possess?

Also: Where to go for a corset? I’ve read that with steady use, it can really whittle the waistline.

I love that you have tulle to work with! Tulle can actually work for women old enough not to be flower girls! It is a tricky but beautiful canvas from which the loveliest dresses can be made. I would say you bring the material to a designer with sharp and sleek design aesthetics. I would go for Ivar Aseron (0928-5013468). You can’t go wrong. He will surely be able to make tulle look sophisticated, with his trademark clean lines and interesting details.

If you were to have a corset made, ask for Mich Dulce. There may be a wait list but good things take time.
