MANILA, Philippines — From now on, the Gilas Pilipinas name will be carried not just by the men’s basketball team but also the national squads in the women’s, youth and 3x3 categories.

According to Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio, the SBP decided to do a “refresh”  on the federation side and get the ball rolling with a change in logo for both the SBP and Gilas Pilipinas.

“We’ve done a study with the help of Cignal and what showed in their research is Gilas Pilipinas  is the most powerful brand and what we want to do is use the branding accross all pillars,” Panlilio said in a presscon last night. “Perlas will now be Gilas Pilipinas women’s, the Batang Gilas will be the Gilas Pilipinas youth, and the 3x3 the Gilas Pilipinas 3x3.”

The new Gilas Pilipinas logo depicts the Philippine eagle in the colors of Phl flag emerging with a basketball which Panlilio explained “shows our love for the game” plus an italicized font which “essays our emotion towards a bright fuure for the sport.”

Panlilo likewise announced the appointment of Ateneo coach and former National mentor Tab Baldwin as program director for the Gilas Pilipinas youth. Coach Jong Uichico will serve as the SBP Academy, Coaches and Tournament head while Rebo Saguisag will handle the Referees and Table Officials program.
