MANILA, Philippines — Adamson University took down the defending champion Ateneo de Manila University, 74-70, in the nightcap of Sunday's UAAP action at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Jerrick Ahanmisi poured 23 markers to help the Soaring Falcons upend the Blue Eagles.

Matt Nieto did the heavy lifting for the Blue Eagles but his team-best scoring performance was not enough to buoy them past their foes.

"My only request was to let the game be close," said Adamson head coach Franz Pumaren. "We still have to prove ourselves."

The Falcons' first victory in Season 81 arrests the team's losing streak that spans for more than a season. The last time they won was via Dawn Ochea's game-winner in Sept. 17, 2016.

Adamson versus De La Salle, Sept. 15 at Araneta Coliseum.

Ateneo versus UP, Sept. 12 at the Big Dome.
