Big field vies in Phl short course swim

MANILA, Philippines - A huge field of 952 swimmers from more than 100 provinces and regions will compete in the 2010 Speedo National Short Course Swimming Championships on Nov. 26-28 at Trace Aquatics Complex.

The qualifiers made it to the three-day swimfest after meeting the stiff qualifying times during the Philippine Aquatic Sports Association’s G-League over the past three months. Originally, over 7,000 swimmers from all over the country vied for slots to the nationals.

“Despite a tougher criteria this year, we saw a 20 percent growth in terms of number of qualifiers,” said PASA president Mark Joseph. “We expect many new Philippine Short Course records to be reset and new talents discovered.”

Events on tap are 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18-and-over for both boys and girls divisions.

The national championships and the G-League are part of grassroots program of PASA, with hundreds of clubs and schools and the association’s core of 300-plus registered age-group coaches and swim teachers taking part yearly.
