Lions, Archers reach quarters

-

MANILA, Philippines - San Beda clobbered University of Perpetual Help-Dalta System, 100-76, and in the process gave La Salle a free ride to the quarterfinal round at the close of the Group B elimination round in the 2010 Filoil Flying V First Five Invitational Cup at the Arena in San Juan yesterday.

Though assured of a quarters slot, the Red Lions fought with great determination, pulling off the rout that gave them a 6-1 win-loss closing card, like the Ateneo Eagles.

University of the Philippines, with a 5-2 record, and La Salle, at 4-3, completed the quarters cast in Group B.

The Red Lions buckled down to work early, racing to a 29-10 lead after the first quarter.

San Beda took the half at 51-29 and refused to slow down to complete a big blowout.

The Lions led by as many as 34, 72-38, on a three-point play by Jake Pascual off Chris Elopre’s foul.

Garvo Lanete led San Beda with 21 points, with four other Lions chipping in 10 points or more.

Earlier, National University outlasted RP Youth 18-Under in double overtime, 68-67.

Emmanuel Mbe had 23 points and 20 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who improved to 3-5, while dealing the Nationals their sixth loss in eight games.
