Letter to the Editor: Church vs. State on condom issue
For the last several weeks, a lot of controversial comments have been made through the media as a result of distribution of condoms to the public.
Poor Secretary Cabral who did act for the benefit of our ignorant youth left alone without guidance about sexuality and tragic consequences.
Many readers have expressed their personal opinion in a very simple but true manner and their views have to be respected.
However, in a country where Catholicism prevails, it is very strange that no one, Church and Lay People, did not simply mention or refer to official documents issued and published by the Holy See regarding Christian Education, Christian Marriage and Human Sexuality.
Here are some of those very important meaningful documents:
- Encyclical of Pope Leo XIII on Christian Marriage (February 10, 1880)
- Encyclical Letter on Christian Education of Youth (December 31, 1929)
- Encyclical of Pope Pius Xi on Christian Marriage (December 31, 1930)
- Declaration on Christian Education (October 28. 1965)
- Encyclical Letter on the Regulation of Birth (July 25, 1968)
- Pontifical Council for the Family "The Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality) (December 8. 1995)
On the last document, Msgr. John F. McCarthy has expressed his views in January 1996 in an article titled "On Human Sexuality: A response of the Holy See to Parents published "Living Tradition", Organ of the Roman Theological Forum.
Instead, to tergiversate on such very important matter. why not go directly to the subject based on official Vatican documents written and published over the years for the benefit of all concerned. In a simple language. Educate, Form and Transform.
The Church and the People of God have a serious task in front of them.
