Magnitude 5 earthquakes hit Surigao del Norte
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck Surigao del Norte on Sunday morning, just moments after a 5.2 quake also hit the province.
PHIVOLCS said the epicenter was near the coast of the municipality of Burgos, where the magnitude 5.2 was felt at 10:59 a.m. of June 6.
By 11:20 a.m., the magnitude 5.8 came but no aftershocks are expected after this, per state seismologists.
Both were tectonic with depth of focus at 17 kilometers for the former and 10 kilometers for the latter.
Intensity 3 was felt over Dapa and General Luna of the said province.
Iintensity 2, meanwhile, was reported over Surigao City, while Intensity 1 over Abuyog and Palo in Leyte.
The provincial government of Surigao del Norte has yet to report of the situation there following the two earthquakes. — Christian Deiparine
