Bean time

MANILA, Philippines - Known for its state-of-the-art espresso machines and a wide selection of coffee pods from pure origins like Brazil, Colombia and Jamaica, Allo Malongo, an old French coffee roaster is now available here in the Philippines.

Exclusively distributed by Europ Continents, international distributor of reputable machines and tailor-made project solutions, they have 14 offices in nine countries in Southeast Asia including the Philippines.

Allo Malongo Coffee is used and endorsed by fine establishments in Europe such as Plaza Athénée, Le Ritz Place, The Four Seasons, Fauchon, Orient-Express, as well as the Royal Belgian Court and Elysée Palace of French President.

Coffee beans are sourced from coffee-growing countries like South America and Africa. These are organically grown with minimal use of fertilizers, carefully harvested by hand, and traditionally dried and roasted.

Packaging is design-patented in vacuum-sealed pre-dosed pods, to retain the pure aromatic quality of coffee. Flavors are well-preserved using chlorine and glue-free natural filter paper immediately after roasting. Each coffee pod is accurately filled with an exact amount of perfectly ground coffee and packed with the right pressure to produce a cup of high-quality espresso.

But the signature trademark of the premium coffee brand is the Max Havelaar, more commonly known as the Fair Trade Label.

“Max Havelaar is a French label that started in France few decades ago. It’s like buying coffee or any product not from commercial producers but from small farmers and growers. Malongo was the first French coffee brand to do fair trade business,” said Geoffrey Morgan, Malongo’s sales and marketing manager.

Jonathan Crespi, Malongo’s president, further explains: “The most important part of fair trade is that it guarantees a stable source of income for small independent coffee growers and sustain their farming activities. We provide efficient facilities, such as water pipes and even security health assistance.”

As of now, there are 14 BFAD-registered coffee flavored pods here in the Philippines. Bestsellers are La Tierra (blend of Arabica from countries in South America), Ethiopia Moka Sidamo (fine coffee with soft and aromatic floral fruity flavor), and Deca Aqua (gourmet coffee with wonderful aroma and flavor of real espresso with no caffeine or solvent).

As for coffee machines, Malongo is recognized for its 1,2,3 Spresso System, a unique technology of espresso maker with 16-bar pressure for instant heating. Easy to use, it takes only 20 seconds to make a smooth, rich and creamy espresso. Plus, it’s easy to clean and requires very low maintenance.

Malongo offers a range of espresso machines, such as the Oh Espresso and Semi-Automatic Sopod, which are ideal for home use and small-medium restaurants, bars, and cafes; the Starpod, Via Compact and Xpod, designed for hotels with professional kitchen set-up; and the Oh Cappuccino, a great add-on machine that makes perfect hot milk froth in just few seconds.

Machines and coffee pods (minimum of five boxes) can be delivered free of charge within Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao and Boracay.
