Team Manila teams up with the 'Heads

RIOT OF JOY - Ramon De Veyra -

Popular graphic design studio Team Manila and Raimund Marasigan, drummer of the Eraserheads, have collaborated on a limited-edition line of Eraserheads T-shirts. The line is under Team Manila’s Daily Grind division, geared toward “urban-themed clothing.”My first glimpse of the shirts was at the ‘Heads’ recent “Final Set” gig, where Marasigan sported them, changing into different shirts throughout the evening. All four designs in the line feature the date of the concert. One of them even has the gig’s set list printed on the back. The other shirt designs feature a large inverted “E,” the logo of the Eraserheads; a drum kit, classic band iconography also with an inverted “E” on the bass drum (likely also a nod to Raimund as drummer); and four helmets of varying colors, with the word “Skateheads.”

This last one could be seen to represent the four band members, but it’s also a tip of the hat to Team Manila’s friendship with Raimund, as they share a love for skateboarding.

In fact, according to Team Manila’s Raimund Punzalan, the idea for this limited-edition line was conceived during one of their skate sessions.

“With Raimund it’s just very casual. We just thought of the designs while we were skating. We tossed ideas back and forth to come up with the four designs.” The day after the recent reunion concert Team Manila had a signing at their Mall of Asia branch and sold out of all their stock of the shirts. With people clamoring for more, a new batch was printed and another signing was held, this time at their branch in Power Plant. At this signing, limited-edition silk-screened posters were offered for purchase to the first 50 people in line. It was a well-attended event, the line stretching way past other neighboring stores.Team Manila have other collaborations with musicians in the works: a continuation of their “Daily Grind” sessions featuring music performances in their studio/store (their new space is being constructed so this should be interesting to see), and a close working relationship with bands like Corporate Lo-Fi and the music label Terno Records (they recently did a shirt for Terno band Up Dharma Down).
