Mr. Chinatown: Bright, young, modern men

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Chinese culture is rich in history and tradition  from their clothing, their meticulous calligraphy, their rich dialect and their unmatched skills in business.

ABS-CBN holds Mr. and Miss Chinatown Philippines 2013 featuring the most eligible young men and women from the Fil-Chinese community.

Set to hit the spotlight are 16 young men of good looks and talent conquering the stage of Resorts World Manila on June 30. The male and female candidates boast qualities of a modern Fil-Chinese.

After months of screening, 16 candidates, teeming with youthful exuberance and aptitude remain in the running to get the title of this year’s best. The male candidates include: Oliver Chen, Glenn Choa, Sydney Du, Gerald Magante, Miguel Lasala, Alvis Lim, Jaime Lim, Randy See, Bruce Sing, John Sy, Arthur Tan, Fredrick Tan, Jerome Tan, Sky Yang, Francis Yao, and JP Yap.

The official candidates for Miss Chinatown Philippines are: Jerene Tan, Robylyn Kimberly Tan, Michelle Marie Sy, Rolini Lim Pineda, Jamie Chua Reyes, Lhowelle Lyka Tan, Sheryl Elaine Chua, Samantha Jade Dy, Maricon Cho, Hannah Dy, Frances Elaine Cham, Kimberly Nicole Ang Mas, Aeryka Chua, Catrina Myka De Guzman Ang, Catherine Yao and Anna Patricia Baesa Tan.

Meeting the best of both worlds, these young men are presented to show more of the Chinese culture beyond preconceived notions and stereotypical definitions. Add up a mix of Filipino blood to that and you get a combination of interesting personalities and traits—an amalgamation of two rich cultures. Thus, the nationwide search signifies what the modern Fil-Chinese is all about, who they are today and their evolution in the society.

“This year, we enter into a meaningful partnership to bring a culturally enriching beauty pageant that seeks to discover Chinese-Filipino talents who posses admirable traditional values but with very contemporary stance and projection and hone to be part of the next generation of stars in the Chinese entertainment industry,” notes Alexis Sy Go, pageant director.

The 32 representatives of the search for the modern Fil-Chinese are ready to work alongside ABS-CBN. Over the course of many years, the station has been the focal lens of historic events, and this pageant is no different.

Mr. & Miss Chinatown Philippines 2013 is a partnership of Miss Chinatown Foundation, Inc. and ABS-CBN Corporation. Finals night is scheduled for June 30, 2013 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila to be telecast live over ABS-CBN.
