What to wear in Boracay

STYLE S.O.S. - The Philippine Star

HI REGINA,

I’m going to Boracay with my barkada for the first time and aside from the swimwear and cover-ups, I really don’t know what to wear. What should I pack?

— KINA

I know Boracay’s rep as a party island can be a little intimidating if you’re not a party person, but really, it’s all about comfort. Everyone keeps it mostly casual. Expect the island to be packed with vacationers; don’t wear stuff that will add to your discomfort.

Cute tank tops (flowy or otherwise — and this is personal preference, but I’d go with sleeveless tops over strapless ones — less accidents, if you catch my drift) and shorts are a good idea or flowy maxi dresses that look great and feel great, too. It all depends on your itinerary. If you’re going dancing, maybe you don’t want something that’s easily stepped on (but you can wear something like that on a more laid-back night). If you’re having a nice dinner with your girlfriends, maybe crack out a summer dress. Whatever you feel comfortable and confident in is definitely it. (Plus a healthy layer of SPF in the daytime, okay?)

Just please, please, please, don’t pack your heels. (Believe me, I’ve seen it happen.) — REGINA

The Mane Event

DEAR LUCY,

What is your hair color? And where do you get it done? I have been trying to get my colorist to copy it but we can’t seem to get it right. Hope you do not mind sharing.

— MICHELLE

DEAR MICHELLE,

Best if I just share with you where I go. Please look for Dennis of Hairworks Salon. I know they use L’Oreal Majirouge Mahogany Blonde as a base, but they add something else to make the color more vibrant. It is best if you go there because then they can check what your natural color is and make a mix that will achieve a color like mine. Hairworks is tucked across the main entrance of Greenbelt 5, with address at ground floor, BSA Tower, 108 Legaspi St., Legaspi Village. For inquiries, call 8884817 or SMS 0917-8224247.                                        â€” LUCY

Say goodbye to smudged eyeliners

DEAR RISSA,

Can you recommend a good eyeliner? I feel frustrated because the pencil one I currently use always get smudged. I always have to check myself in the mirror, clean up my eye area and retouch. I’ve tried those Japanese liquid eyeliners that claim to last 24 hours, but once I try curling my lashes, the liquid eyeliner sticks to my lash curler and leaves a bald spot on my lash line. Hope you can recommend a reliable eyeliner. — CCG

DEAR CCG,

Most liners come in either liquid, felt-tip pen, a pot of gel, or pencil form. Since using eyeliner takes a steady hand, pencil is best to work with because it’s easier to control. They’re user friendly and more natural looking. Liquid or felt tip pens give great precision but require steady application while gel eyeliners are known to give long lasting intensity.

The latest beauty innovation right now is gel eyeliners in the form of pencils. They provide the best of both worlds: the intensity and long-lasting quality of a gel liner with the ease of a pencil. I’m obsessed right now with The Face Shop’s Face It Styling Auto Gel Liner (available at all The Face Shop stores nationwide). This is the best eyeliner I’ve tried to date — genuinely long-lasting and totally smudge-free. When I first bought it, I regretted buying only one. I wished I had bought more. I love how this gel pencil eyeliner glided on smoothly on my lids without any tugging or pulling feeling yet provided a completely smudge-free line. This eyeliner also gave a great intense black color, which never faded. Unlike other eyeliners which would smudge to the lower lashes with a mere blink, this never budged no matter how close to the lash line I applied it. And yes, it doesn’t come off after curling your lashes. Say goodbye to bald spots, which liquid liners tend to leave because this liner really stays put. Extra beauty bonus: this automatic eyeliner comes with a concealed sharpener on one end so you can shape the tip to the perfect point you need.
