Tips on long-staying red lips

STYLE S.O.S. - Lucy Torres-Gomez, Rissa M. Samson, Tingting Cojuangco -

Dear Lucy,

I am really loving the look of strong, red lips, but I am frustrated at how it always seems to bleed, even when I use a lipliner. Is there a trick I should know?

Barbie

I asked Chechel Joson and here are her foolproof tips for long-staying red lips:

1. Apply lipstick.

2. Dab lips with Kleenex. Make sure your lips will leave a mark on the Kleenex.

3. Line entire lips with lip pencil, also in red.

4. Dab lips with Kleenex again.

5. Apply lipstick again.

6. Dab lips with Kleenex again. Make sure to dab inner lips so the red won’t go to your teeth.

7. Test on your hands if the color from your lips doesn’t stain your hand anymore — you’re done layering the red on your lips. You don’t have to retouch for the rest of the night. The color won’t stain the glass when you drink. What you’re doing is depositing the pigments on the lips with the Kleenex until pigments are on your lips. Try it. I did, with very happy results!

The Truth About Serums

Dear Rissa,

I see a lot of facial serums offered on the beauty market. How is a facial serum different from a facial cream?

Francesca T.

The main difference between a serum and a cream is how they are formulated to work with your skin. Serums are designed to deliver anti-aging ingredients or lightening ingredients into your skin more quickly. So why use a serum? Because it allows added nutrients into deeper layers of your skin that a regular moisturizer won’t be able to reach and penetrate.

Lightweight and fast-absorbing, serums go deeper into the skin’s layers than moisturizers or creams. Serums aren’t meant to hydrate the skin — they’re designed to nourish it. They act as a delivery system for ingredients that repair and regenerate your skin on a deeper cellular level. So while serums effectively deposit nutrients into the skin, moisturizers and creams are meant to provide moisture and hydrate the skin. If you have dry skin, it’s best to hydrate your skin with a moisturizing cream after using a serum.

Keep in mind that serums tend to be concentrated and potent. Unlike moisturizers and creams that we are so used to slathering on, less is more when it comes to serums. Using the smallest amount of serum, it should be dabbed on the skin covering as much skin as possible. A little goes a long way.

Groaning About The Groins

Hi, Ms. Tingting!

I would like to ask where I could find the clinics of Dr. Filomena Montinola and Dr. Imelda Cervantes as well as their contact numbers.

Regarding your column titled “Let there be white,” is there anything that you can recommend for my dark groin area (singit) and my underarms, too?

Mary Grace Nicdao

You can go to Dr. Filomena Montinola’s clinic at the Makati Medical Center. She’s there every day.

Dr. Imelda Cervantes holds clinic every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the Medical Tower Building on Rufino St., corner Paseo de Roxas in Makati City.

Both of them can help you with your concerns.
