She's dying to dye her hair gray

STYLE S.O.S. - Lucy Torres-Gomez, Rissa M. Samson, Tingting Cojuangco -

Dear Rissa,

I don’t want to dye my hair any more and would like to transition to gray hair. However, I need a hair colorist to dye my hair an appropriate shade of gray to take out the brassiness of my old hair color and help me transition to my natural gray. Would you please recommend an expert colorist who can help me? I need the info as soon as possible as I have to be a ninang at a wedding in a few weeks.

Chita

I recommend you turn to the king of cut and color Alex Carbonell. He has been in the beauty industry for 21 years. He was schooled at Sebastian in Los Angeles for hair craftsmanship, Schwarzkopf Training Centers, Toni & Guy Academy, and Revlon for color competence and mastery. He was the learning director for Bench Fix Salons for nine years, training hair technicians on the latest and the best methods to everything there is to know about hair. Showbiz celebrities, fashionistas, and beauty icons like Bianca Gonzalez, Hindy Weber-Tantoco, Toni Gonzaga, Diether Ocampo, Dennis Trillo, Jolina Magdangal, Rainier Castillo, Pinky Amador, and Chanda Romero trust Alex for their tresses. Alex now serves as chief creative artistic director for Studio Fix Salon.

RTW Or Custom-Made: Shirting The Issue

Dear Lucy,

Where do you get those nice tailored shirts I always see you wear? Are they super expensive? Ready or custom made?

Also, I’m interested to start a business on accessories, how do you suggest I proceed? I really enjoy watching you on The Sweet Life’s project time, maybe one day I can contribute a handmade accessory for your viewers to copy!

Krisna

I like buying tailored shirts because they are a classic and always look smart. It is easy to dress them up or down, depending on your mood. They are not exactly cheap, but you always have to pay more for quality. That said, you also get more when you invest in the quality of your clothes. I buy ready-made tailored shirts from Paul Smith and Ben Sherman, and I also order from Randy Ortiz who delivers a perfect fit all the time!

In terms of getting started on a business on accessories, I suggest that you gather raw materials that you can play around with. Go to Carolinas for beautiful little things like buttons, lace and appliqués, feathers and fancy fabric. Look for beads, stones, interesting items to put together in an unexpected way. Play and work with both hands and heart. You will be surprised at what you can come up with. I wish you all the best! And yes, you are welcome to contribute a project know-how for our segment “project time.” We have featured several viewers already in the past. Looking forward to that.

Facing Unwanted Hair Growth

Dear ms. Tingting

I have a problem with facial-hair growth and some unwanted hair in the different areas of my body, but I got tired of waxing. There were times when I got burned and irritated skin after waxing.

I don’t like shaving, too, because it makes me feel itchy when hair starts growing back.

Elvira sibatan-rivera,West Rembo

There’s this device that works by using gentle pulses of heat to dissolve hair follicles and is completely painless. It claims to safely reduce hair growth by up to 65 percent if used two or three times a week. It’s called Remover TM.

It is also simple to use. Just plug it in and run it along skin wherever you want to remove hair. You can use it on stubble or longer hair, but unlike shaving, results are not instantaneous, and it gives off an odor of burning hair.

This device is available at Sephora at $250. You can check the website for local distribution in our department stores or derma clinics, where it may be available at a reasonable cost.
