J.K. Rowling's new book hits Powerbooks at midnight of December 4

-

Powerbooks Greenbelt and Alabang Town Center will open their doors at Dec. 4, at 12 midnight, to sell The Tales of Beedle the Bard, the newest addition to J.K. Rowling’s magic world of wizardry.

The book, praised as a wizarding classic, was first mentioned in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows as the book Albus Dumbledore bequeathed to Hermione Granger. Translated by Hermione from ancient runes, this remarkable book features an introduction, notes, pen-and-ink illustrations by Rowling, and an extensive commentary by Albus Dumbledore.

Muggle readers will now be privy to five richly imaginative wizard tales: “The Wizard and the Hopping Pot,” “The Fountain of Fair Fortune,” “The Warlock’s Hairy Heart,” “Babbitty Rabbitty and Her Cackling Stump,” and “The Tale of the Three Brothers.”

Written some 18 months before his death, Professor Dumbledore’s commentary revealed not only his knowledge of wizarding lore but also his personal brand of humor, courage, pride in his abilities, and his hard-won wisdom. Dumbledore tells us of interesting stories like the hilariously troubled theatrical productions at Hogwarts or the dangers of having a “hairy heart.” More than that, he also reveals aspects of the wizarding world that his Muggle readers might find all too familiar, like censorship, intolerance, and questions about the deepest mysteries in life. A book that every true Harry Potter fan will want to have on their shelves, The Tales of Beedle the Bard will equal the fairy tales we know and love.

Part of the magic of each purchase of this book is in the form of giving. For every sale made, Scholastic will give its net proceeds to the Children’s High Level Group (CHLG), a charity co-founded in 2005 by J.K. Rowling and Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, MEP. CHLG campaigns to protect and promote children’s rights and make life better for vulnerable young people.

Reservations made until Dec. 3 entail a 10 percent discount. Reserved copies need to be paid in the full reservation amount of P584. Orders made at the Powerbooks website that are approved on or before Dec. 3 also entail a 10 percent discount. Visit www.powerbooks.com.ph for more information.
