Monsoon rains to persist

MANILA, Philippines — Rains brought by the southwest monsoon will hit parts of Luzon and the western section of Visayas today, according to the state weather bureau.
Metro Manila and most of Luzon will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains.
Occasional heavy rains and thunderstorms remain likely, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
Floods in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous regions are possible, particularly in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan and Zambales.
Meanwhile, the Parent-Teacher Association yesterday said that the suspension of classes should be left to the discretion of concerned government local government units and the Department of Education after private schools bucked the blanket authority given to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla. - Bella Cariaso
