Senate race so far: Bong Go leads, Bam Aquino surprises at second
MANILA, Philippines (10th update; First published May 12, 9:11 p.m.) — Incumbent Sen. Bong Go has topped the partial and unofficial Magic 12 from the Commission on Elections transparency servers, having transmitted 97.20% of the votes so far.
After Go, opposition candidate Bam Aquino came in a surprise second-place showing, defying pre-election surveys by polling companies Social Weather Stations and Pulse Asia that showed him outside the leading 12 candidates prior to the May 12 vote. Joining him on the winning candidates so far is ally Kiko Pangilinan at fifth place.
Other candidates occupying the 12 top positions are backed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte.

The 2025 midterm elections have been highly divisive, following the fallout between President Marcos and Vice President Duterte. A clear line has been drawn between the former allies, with Duterte set to face an impeachment trial in the Senate this June.
The 12 senators who will sit as judges in the impeachment trial will be determined by the outcome of the midterm elections.
As of 12:47 p.m., the Commission on Elections has received 99.01% of local election returns nationwide, with only 922 remaining. Meanwhile, overseas election returns transmitted have reached 88.84%, with 27 left.
Editor's Note: The version of this article as of 1:36 p.m. on May 13, 2025 reflects the latest and corrected partial, unofficial tallies of votes. This was due to an earlier error in the Comelec's data transmission which duplicated the count from thousands of polling precincts.
