MANILA, Philippines — The operations of the Metro Rail Transit-3 will be suspended during the Holy Week to make way for its annual maintenance work.

The maintenance shutdown is scheduled to start on April 15 (Holy Monday) and will last until April 21 (Easter Sunday). This is longer than the five-day maintenance break in 2018.

Operations will return to normal on April 22.

“Maintenance works that will be done during the one week suspension of revenue operations including rail grinding, rail cascading, replacement of turnouts, structural testing and other maintenance activities on our trains, electrical systems and other MRT-3 subsystems,” the railway management said.

It also asked for the understanding and patience of commuters “as we take the necessary maintenance measures toward making MRT-3 more reliable and efficient, parallel with our comprehensive rehabilitation and overhaul of the entire system."

MRT-3, which runs from North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City, ferries around half a million passengers daily. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
