CHR to review events leading to Tiamzons’ arrest

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) yesterday said it would conduct a review of the events that led to the arrest of communist rebel leaders Benito and Wilma Tiamzon.

CHR chief of information Marc Titus Cebreros said they just wanted to make sure that the rights of the Tiamzon couple are respected.

He clarified the CHR is not investigating the arrest of the couple.

This developed after CHR Chairman Loretta Ann Rosales and some of the commissioners visited the Tiamzon couple and the five others who were arrested with them at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center.

“It was a cordial meeting, and the CHR obtained assurances from the PNP that the rights of the detainees are not violated,” Cebreros said. – Rhodina Villanueva, Raymund Catindig
