Damayan fund for typhoon victims reaches P6.5 M

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - With relief work all set in three locations in Leyte, Eastern Samar and Northern Cebu in a few days, Operation Damayan, the social arm of The Philippine STAR, continued to receive donations from good Samaritans seeking to give their support to families devastated by Super Typhoon Yolanda.

Companies, sometimes employees of companies, as well as groups and individuals have been sending in a stream of donations in hopes that the money and goods they have sent will help typhoon victims look past their tragedy.

Real estate developer Anchor Land Holdings Inc. led yesterday’s donors with P200,000. Damayan also received an additional P196,750 from TGFHA, an anonymous donor of Operation Damayan who earlier donated P50,000. Likewise, Stronghold Insurance Co. Inc. sent in P100,000.

Other donations also came from: Elena R. Ruiz/Alma Bella Bautista, P20,000; the Silay Apostolic Church, P5,000; Anonymous, P3,000; Arnold and Jovy Sabior, P3,000; Jonap Spring, P1,000; Jerry Donato, P1,000; and Jasmine Portugal, P500.

Likewise, LCA Precious Land Realty Inc. sent 250 pieces of assorted groceries while Ed Ramirez donated four boxes of Summit drinking water.

Total donations received yesterday amounted to P530,250, which raises the Operation Damayan funds for Yolanda victims to P6.5 million.

The funds will be used to bring much-needed relief items targeting more than 6,000 families.
