Arnel Pineda reveals attempts to leave Journey

MANILA, Philippines — Journey vocalist Arnel Pineda opened up about thoughts of leaving the American band occured to him twice.
In his interview with Rolling Stone, Arnel said that his frustrations were getting the best of him but he received no response from his bandmates Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain when he told them about his personal issues.
Journey has been on their “Final Frontier” tour since November 2025, performing across multiple stops in the United States and Canada.
Schon mentioned that the tour could potentially extend through 2027, though no additional details have been confirmed yet.
“As they say, silence can be louder than explaining. I said to [Schon and Cain] I wanted to retire because of my personal problems. No answer,” Arnel told Rolling Stone.
“Obviously, they don’t want to find another singer.”
Arnel also shared that he is “unhappy” with how the tour has been scheduled, recalling that he had previously told Schon and Cain that the dates should be discussed with him.
He added that his personal issues have been “getting more intense,” his body has “changed,” and he can no longer tolerate the cold weather.
“I said, ‘I want you to discuss the schedule with me.’ It is what it is now. But then, I was really not happy with how they scheduled this tour. My body has changed. I can’t take the cold weather anymore,” he said.
“My personal problem really took a toll on me. That’s why I wanted to prioritize my family.”
The Filipino singer clarified that he does not dislike touring with Journey; however, he needs more time to ensure he is in a better condition before performing.
“It’s not that I hate touring with Journey. It’s like the same thing that happened with Steve Perry. He has a hip problem,” he said.
“Me, I have a personal problem that’s taking a toll on me. It’s getting in my head, emotionally. I told them that I was a wreck and needed a little more time so that I could fix my family. But I still have to do this.”
“I love the guys. I respect them so much. And I will remain until the last days of my life grateful, and really feeling blessed, for what they’ve done for me."
