Eddie del Mar in ‘other’ roles

REMEMBER WHEN? - Danny Dolor - The Philippine Star

Eddie del Mar is identified with Jose Rizal roles in the ’50s and ’60s. He played Rizal in Sa Dating Kandungan (1959) and Buhay at Pag-ibig ni Dr. Jose Rizal (1956), which gave him the FAMAS Best Actor award. In Noli Me Tangere (1961) and Sisa (1951), Eddie portrayed Crisostomo Ibarra, where he was nominated Best Supporting Actor in the Maria Clara Awards.

But Eddie starred in ‘roles,’ meaning non-Rizal characters.

In 1964, he was Andres Bonifacio in Ang Supremo (with Lolita Rodriguez and Tessie San Juan). In 1960, Eddie starred in the sci-fi Tokyo 1960, filmed in Japan’s capital.

Also in the ’60s, Eddie was leading man to Anita Linda in Bandolero and to Rosita Noble in Is My Guy. — RKC
