LLDA cites GMA Network

-

MANILA, Philippines –  GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) has been recognized by the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) for delivering good environmental performance in 2009 during an awarding ceremony held recently in Rembrandt Hotel, Quezon City. The network earned a “Blue” rating for meeting the LLDA’s effluent standards and regulatory requirements.

The recognition forms part of the Public Disclosure Program for the Laguna de Bay Region, which complements environmen-tal regulation with the application of market-based instruments to help reduce the pollution loading in the lake.

GMA vice president for administration Roehl Julian said the network has been adopting “green” practices in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility for several years now.

“We are very happy with the recognition given by the LLDA, as GMA remains highly committed to its role in the preservation of the environment. Our eco-friendly practices within the Network’s compound are testament to our efforts for conservation,” Julian said.

“We are treating this honor as a challenge for us to continue with our earth-friendly practices, and to find even better ways to contribute to the protection of our natural resources,” Julian added.

GMA Network’s environmental prac-tices form part of the network’s environ-mental advocacy program dubbed Kapuso ng Kalikasan (KNK).

Among the practices that fall under the program are the use of light emitting diode (LED) lamps that have lower wattage and reusing biodegradable office materials and supplies.

GMA has also installed a sewage treatment plant (STP) in the GMA Network Studios.

STP produces an average of 50 cubic meters per day of treated water for reuse in flushing toilets, watering plants, and cleaning facilities.
