Dell mulls changes to Philippine operations

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Dell Inc. is studying changes in its Philippine operations by February next year following the merger with EMC Corp.

Gaurav Chand, global vice president for marketing, Enterprise Solutions Group of Dell said in a press conference the company is still looking into how the merger with EMC would affect operations in the country.

“We’re still looking at that. We don’t know all the answers around both people rationalization and product rationalization. From a pure sales standpoint, we’re not going to move the needle on any of this stuff until February 2017 when the new financial year begins,” Chand said.

He said the integration team is currently at work to determine changes in operations.

Dell Philippines country manager Chris Papa said the firm’s facility in Eastwood in Quezon City currently hosts 500 employees engaged in sales and marketing and business process outsourcing.

The merger of Dell and EMC was announced in October last year.

The deal, which involves Dell’s acquisition of EMC for $67 billion, is considered to be the largest technology acquisition ever.

It will combine companies with leadership positions in servers, storage, virtualization and personal computers.

The deal is seen to benefit customers as the combination of the two firms would mean greater ability to address their changing information technology needs.
