Philips pushes LED use

MANILA, Philippines - Philips Lighting Philippines has kicked off a campaign that aims to emphasize the benefits of using LED lighting solutions to reduce the Philippines’ carbon footprint.

“The Promise of a Greener World” campaign hopes to educate consumers on the need to avert the drastic effects of global warming, the company’s top executive said.

Fabia Tetteroo-Bueno, Philips country manager and general manager form lighting, said with the campaign, the company hopes to encourage consumers to switch to LED lighting solutions.

She said LED bulbs are not only more energy efficient but also environment-friendly.

“With this campaign, we hope to share with consumers the facts about LED lighting solutions and encourage them to make the simple switch to sustainable lighting solutions that are environment-friendly,” said Tetteroo-Bueno.

The campaign is in partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines.

“For three years, Philips has been supporting Earth Hour and our various energy efficiency initiatives. This new LED campaign helps Filipinos go beyond the hour to save the planet, one LED bulb at a time,” said WWF Philippines vice chairman and chief executive officer Jose Ma. Lorenzo Tan.

The campaign, launched at the SM Mall of Asia, also seeks to educate consumers on the characteristics of good quality LED lighting products.

“Aside from making consumers aware of the many benefits they can get from using LED lighting solutions, we want them to understand that they need to choose good quality LED lighting products to maximize the product’s potential,” Tetteroo-Bueno said.

Data from the company showed that in the past, a LED bulb cost almost P1,000 but now the price is now down to P349 for the 5-watt to P749 for the 13 watt bulb.

The company said a 5-watt bulb can have total operating hours of 150 a month and energy savings of 37.5 percent.
