AirAsia inks deal with SIA Engineering

CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga, Phlippines – AirAsia Philippines Inc. has signed a two-year contract with SIA Engineering (Philippines) Corp., a leading provider of aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO ) services in Asia Pacific, to carry out aircraft maintenance for its fleet in Clark.

“Today is a milestone not only for AirAsia Inc. Philippines but for the country as well, as we are tapping the skills of fellow Filipino flight mechanics, engineers, technicians and aviation experts of SIAEP. This partnership affirms that Pinoys are truly world-class!” Maan Hontiveros, chief executive officer of AirAsia Inc., Philippines said.

“With SIAEP’s high quality and comprehensive engineering services, there will be safer and faster turnarounds of aircraft for the benefit of our passengers while we continue to offer lower airfares,” she said.

AirAsia Philippines has an all-Filipino management, staff and crew from pilots, flight attendants, engineers, ground services to marketing, finance and administration officers. For his part, SIAEP general manager Seah SoonHuat said: “We are delighted to be part of the growing partners of AirAsia, Inc. Philippines in bringing the country at the forefront of the aviation industry. We also look forward to developing Clark as a major regional aviation hub by providing world- class MRO services to our customers.”

Under the agreement, SIAEP will provide AAP with a broad spectrum of MRO and aircraft maintenance ranging from routine to non-routine services including but not limited to transit handling, daily and weekly checks, e-checks and other associated maintenance services.

“This partnership underlines the confidence we have on the future of Clark as an international airport and also to support the government’s effort to pump up the economy by creating jobs and business opportunities,” Hontiveros said.

AirAsia services the most extensive network with over 160 routes covering destinations in Asia, Australia and Europe. Within nine years of operations, AirAsia has carried over 120 million guests and grown its fleet from just two aircraft to 104. The airline today is proud to be atruly Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) airline with established operations based in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, servicing a network stretching across all Asean countries, China, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Australia.
