Local absentee voting starts today

MANILA, Philippines – Those who registered for local absentee voting are set to cast their votes starting today until Friday.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon yesterday urged local absentee voters to go to their designated polling precincts to vote.

Covered by local absentee voting are government officials and employees, police, military and media practitioners who will not be able to vote in their own polling precincts on election day because they have election-related duties.

Local absentee voters can vote only for president, vice president, senators and party-list organizations manually.

“To all local absentee voters, exercise your right to vote, especially those in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology who put your lives on the line in defense of our country,” Guanzon said.

Based on the records of Comelec’s committee on local absentee voting which Guanzon heads, 28,705 individuals applied but only 24,814 were granted.
