MANILA, Philippines — Asked back then what she wants to do next after her stint for two decades with the popular radio show “The Morning Rush,” Delamar Arias said she wanted to have a talk show, but she hesitated saying it. But the interviewer said she must say it because maybe the universe is listening. Now, the universe has spoken.

The well-loved radio disk jock Delamar is back for “Str8 Up with Delamar,” an online talk show produced by award-winning website 8list.ph to be shown in its Facebook page every Wednesday at noon starting June 21.

“To be honest, I really want to do a talk show for such a long time. But it’s a door that has never been opened to me. I’ve auditioned for some talk shows. But for some reason, it didn’t open for me. Parang something will always come up, they like me but then I’m about to give birth or I gave it my all but I’m not the one they’re looking for. Until 8list approached me,” she told Philstar.com.

“It was nothing major, nothing big, but I knew I want to do it no matter how it wasn’t going to be the big production I always imagined it to be. I don’t care, I just want to do a talk show. Then it came true, then we started talking what I wanted to do next, what are the episodes, what I am gonna say,” she continued.

“Str8 Up with Delamar” provides Delamar a digital platform to tell her experiences and express her unique opinions to educate in a clear and fun way, with her different perspective on relevant topics ranging from politics, relationships, and everything in between, which she will be delivering straight up.

The first episode of the program tackles the comfort zone. With the change of scenery for Delamar, she is definitely out of her comfort zone. “I’m not comfortable being seen. I’m most comfortable being heard. Because I don’t wanna worry how I look. I’m insecure like everybody else that way. It’s so easy to just talk and be the judge for what are you saying and who you are and your content, kaya ko 'yon. Pero if being judge how I look d'on medyo parang scary.”

From radio to screen, Delamar said she is still adjusting and she finds it so hard. “In radio, you really don’t care how you look. It’s nothing to think about except what you are saying and the thoughts. With this medium (online), kaya ako nahihirapan kasi it’s not just about you, it is about the lighting, it is about the sounds, it’s about your hair, your clothes, your eyebrows. Para bang ‘can we just stop it and let’s just talk’ but apparently it’s not what happens when you are doing something visual. The visual is just as much a part of the content. Kasi nga naman who wants something that looks ugly? It’s so different from the world was I a part of for 20 years.”

For Delamar, the biggest fear is if someone says, “Ay, pang-radio ka lang eh.” Nonetheless, she realized if she does not risk it, she will never know. “At least if I do it and if I fail, alam ko na ngayon.”

8List is a dynamic website known for making lists that resonate with Filipino millenials. With a pulse on the Pinoy, it has consistently published content that aims to be informative and enlightening, yet entertaining.
