Posadas fails to make World Cup quarterfinals

SHANGHAI – After a strong performance in the qualifying round, Philippine champion Lara Posadas failed to advance to the women’s quarterfinals by finishing only 10th yesterday in the 52nd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup international finals here.

Posadas collected 5603 pinfalls (200.11 average) after 28 games to end her initial campaign in the prestigious world individual kegfest.

Only eight bowlers, led by Singapore’s Bernice Lim, remained in the race for the title which will be disputed by four who will advance to the semifinal round.

The other Filipino campaigner, Raoul Miranda, was still playing for a spot in the quarterfinals at press time.

Lim rolled 5985 (213.75 average) to finish ahead of USA’s Danielle McEwan, who carded 5939 (212.11).

The other quarterfinalists are England’s Lisa John, 5885 (210.18), Sweden’s Jenny Wegner, 5854 (209.07), Australia’s Rebecca Whiting, 5814 (207.64), Germany’s Nadine Geissler, 5789 (206.75), Mexico’s Iliana Lomeli, 5781 (206.46) and Malaysia’s Syaidatul Afifah, 5776 (206.29)

Sharon Limansantoso of Indonesia checked in ninth, 31 pins ahead of Posadas.

Posadas advanced to the second round of 24 champions from 69 countries by shooting 4343 in 20 games to rank eighth.
