The Snow Fairy is here
MANILA, Philippines — While halls are decked in yuletide hues of red and green this time of year, for beauty fans, pink is the color of Christmas; that’s because Lush’s Snow Fairy, the British company’s best-seller for 20 years, is back as a Christmas exclusive.
“It smells like marshmallows,” describes Lush product inventor Alessandro Commisso. “It reminds people in the UK of pear drops, a traditionally British candy, and we’re a British company.”
It all began with the Snow Fairy shower gel, imbuing fragrant glitter to the skin. They have since expanded to a body spray iteration of the scent, featuring its perfume with low concentration but unexpectedly large in sillage and lasting power. “The Snow Fairy scent in the body spray lasts forever, until next Christmas — who knows?” Ale quips.
The star of this year’s collection is Snow Fairy Light, a large pink bath bomb in the form of a star with a blue star cap, containing tiny colorful stars inside — and they’re all bath bombs!
Inspired by the fizzing action of Alka Seltzer tabs, Lush takes their bestselling bath bombs to the next level. “The idea was to create the ultimate bath bomb surprise, a little gift for Christmas. The bath bomb dust floats at a different speed so it looks fairy-like in the water. The second experience is the little blue lid packed with glitter — the star of the show, literally — all plastic-free. The third star gives the pink sprinkle of the confetti.” Ale explains. It’s the perfect from-me-to-me present for the holidays.
Another stocking stuffer suggestion is Galaxy, a lip scrub that’s completely natural and biodegradable. “Buff your lips before licking off the excess — you absolutely can eat it! We took the idea of a raspberry slushie then you’re left with a layer of jojoba oil,” Ale says.
As for the gift-wrapping, Lush highlights its Knot Wraps, “because it is not a wrap and you need to knot it to put it together.” The scarves are inspired by the Japanese tradition of furoshiki, the tradition of wrapping bathing products to bring to the bathhouse, then folding them into your pocket after use.
One of the highlights is It’s Christmas Deer, a scarf made from 100-percent organic cotton that is grown in Pradesh, India. The fabric is screen-printed by artisans at a traditional printer, then finally sewn by a proprietorship with a social cause supporting the artisan community and empowering women.
Now available in local stores and online, the Lush Christmas 2021 collection carries gift packaging that are made from 100-percent recycled paper while the ribbons are made from 100-percent recycled polyester using recycled drink bottles.
