Trends from seasons past make a comeback for the holidays

Leather and black — wardrobe staples for generations of style mavens — were mixed liberally with comebacks in the form of checks and plum. Whether worn alone or layered all at once, these trends were saved from looking like time-travel souvenirs with a smattering of modern textures and silhouettes.

Leather

Bundling up to brave the chill calls for trusty leather. The beloved material was used for coats of all shapes and sizes. Interesting details and finishes kept this staple from going stale with its never-ending reinvention.

Plum

Say hello to plum as it once again blips on our radar. The royal color adds a punch of festivity as it was reinvented in sparkling jewel tones.

Black

Black is eternal. Say what you want about the color — or, to be scientifically correct, the lack of it — it still holds the honor of being the go-to hue of the stylish set. Shimmer and sparkle were added in abundance to keep the color from delving too deep into its otherwise somber fate.

The cowboy called and he wants his top back. With its relaxed feel and yuletide-ready color, it’s easy to see why this rodeo favorite is too good a trend not to resurrect — provided that layering is added to the mix.
