A sweet-smelling, gravity-defying shindig
February 2, 2002 | 12:00am
The year 2002 arrived with a bang here in Manila because of all the great kick-off parties and events. The party that topped all parties for the New Year for me was the Zero Gravity Party presented by MTV and Axe Gravity. With over 10,000 people coming together to fill up Glorietta 4 Park at the Ayala Center, this was definitely the place to be.
It was a totally different party with a totally new, unique and exciting concept. Not only was it a New Year’s party, it was also the launch of Axe’s very new fragrance, dubbed "Gravity." As Laurence Cua, Axe brand assistant says, "The Axe and MTV Zero Gravity Party was definitely a great vehicle to launch our new fragrance, which is inspired by the fundamental force that drives and rules the universe: the sensation of falling at incredible speeds, of floating in the air, of weightlessness. Ultimately, Gravity is the undeniable force and experience behind the attraction of bodies. And so, we made sure that the experience of the Axe and MTV Zero Gravity Party was unique and memorable, where people could immerse themselves in the whole Axe Gravity experience, through non-stop dancing, electrifying music and gravity-defying performances."
The music started at around 10 p.m. and people slowly started to gather in the park. A wall of mist greeted them and invigorated their senses with Gravity. The main program started at 1 a.m. and the partying lasted until dawn. It was definitely a hit. Top spin-doctors Manolet Dario, Nicky Jurado and Elmer Dado kept bodies pumping and grinding to their stimulating beats. High-flying technical performances, a la Cirque de Soleil by Technical Carnival kept the crowd at awe. Power Dance and the MTV ledge dancers gyrated and showed off their sexy dance moves, teasing the crowd to join in. The Yellow Jackets astonished the people as they performed body-bumping beats live with the use of pipes. Drinks flowed from the bar provided by SevenEightOrange.
Axe definitely defied Gravity by welcoming the start of the New Year fresh and cool, with the introduction of their new fragrance Axe Gravity by joining forces with MTV Philippines in cooperation with Ayala Center. No other party could defy Gravity like they did. What a great start for the New Year!
