Canino claims women’s chess crown

MANILA, Philippines — Ruelle Canino, the 16-year-old chess wonder, shook the current order and slew some of the country’s giants of the game in conquering the National Women’s Chess Championship in Malolos, Bulacan over the weekend.

She capped her magnificence with a shocking 62-move upset of Woman International Master Jan Jodilyn Fronda and gained rights to compete in the Olympiad and in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.
