Marcos boosts morale of Para athletes
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines came through with contrasting results in wheelchair basketball yesterday to launch its campaign in the 11th ASEAN Para Games in Solo, Indonesia where the delegation received a video greeting from no less than President Marcos.
“Just like to send my good luck wishes to Team Philippines who are now in the 11th ASEAN Para Games,” said Marcos in a video posted on the Philippine Sports Commission’s social media pages.
“Siguro naman, mapapantayan ninyo mga success stories ng ibang atleta na nakipag-laban sa international games na kagaya niyo,” the President added.
“Good luck sa inyong lahat at ako’y nakakasiguro na pasisikatin na naman ninyo ang Pilipinas,” he added.
The team of Alfie Cabanog, Rene Macabenguil, Kenneth Christopher Tapia and Cleford Trocino and John Rey Escalante rallied to beat host Indonesia, 15-10, in men’s 3x3 wheelchair basketball at the Sritex Arena.
In contrast, the women’s squad of Jhorecil Panquico, Cecilia Naceno, Jean delos Reyes and Patricia Camille Castro absorbed two losses, one against Thailand, 11-0, and another to Laos, 6-1.
Meanwhile, action intensifies in all fronts today including badminton and powerlifting at the Edutorium UMS Surakarta and Solo Paragon Hotel, respectively.
