Rondina, Tigresses sweep Lady Warriors for first win

MANILA, Philippines — The University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses notched their first win of the season after a sweep of the University of the East Lady Warriors 25-17, 25-15, 25-21, in the 80th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying-V Centre in San Juan Wednesday.

 

The Tigresses did not let the Lady Warriors mount another comeback, with team captain Sisi Rondina leading the pack with 19 points on 18 attacks and a block.

 

"Iniisip ko 'yung mga teammates ko, and alam ko din na may makakatulong ako kaya buhos lahat," she said.

 

It was a well-balanced scoring effort for the Tigresses with Dimdim Pacres, Tin Francisco and Milena Alessandrini combining for 21 points.

 

May Ann Mendrez, meanwhile, paced the Lady Warriors with 10 points. UST moves up the standings with a 1-1 record, while UE falls to 0-2.

 

Rondina said the lopsided victory is a big boost for the Tigresses as they will next face the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles on Sunday.

 

"Syempre ibang usapan yan, Ateneo 'yan eh. Magta-trabaho ulit kami, tatrabahuhin namin kung saan kami mahina, at mas tatrabahuhin namin kung saan kami malakas," she said.
