Escaño-Ignacio tandem tops Southwoods Invitational

MANILA, Philippines – Thirdy Escaño and guest partner Alex Ignacio turned in a pair of solid rounds at the Legends and Masters courses to capture the overall gross team championship with a 126 while brothers Butch and Philip Brodett pooled a 164 to cop the overall net title in the Manila Southwoods invitational in Carmona, Cavite recently.

Escaño and Ignacio shot 64 points under the Modified Stableford (Aggregate) scoring format at the Legends then dominated the field at the Masters with a 62 to run away with the premier crown in the event presented by Mitsubishi Motors Phils./Diamond Motors, Royal Caribbean/Baron Travel, and Mit-Air Sales Center.

The Brodetts, on the other hand, strung up two 82s for a 164 and won the net title via countback with a lower combined handicap of 16.

Brian Park and Eden Hernandez made a 77 and 80 for a 157 to post a 10-point victory over Marty Ilagan and Iggy Clavecilla, who had a 69-78 and a 147, in Division I of the 36-hole tournament sponsored by Warbird Securities, Resorts World and Promise Land Trading.

Lota Nemec and Carina Ricamonte ruled Division II with a 159 from rounds of 77 and 82, beating Roy Jimenez and Jay Art Tugada, who had 78 and 72, by nine while Mario Badillo and Luisito Lantin topped Division III with 164 from two 82s to edge Manolo Agojo and Col. DIonisia (79-82-161 by three.

Rod Pepito and Lee Soo Nam took the Division IV crown with a 149 (76-73), two ahead over Buddy Cabrera and Hector Bolado (77-70) in the tournament sponsored by Asia Brewery, Asia Pacific Golf Corp., BDO, Boehringer Ingelheim (Phil.I, Inc., Café de Lipa, Camp John Hay Golf Club, Castillo Laman Tan Pantaleon and San Jose Law Offices, Club Leisure Management Corp. and Duty Free Phils.

Ver Bucat and Rene Tiongson reigned in the Sponsors division with a 153 (79-74), nipping Sonsoles Perez De Tagle and Gaston Perez de Tagle (81-70) in the event supported by Red Eagle Lending Inc., Regent Travel Corp., Remeng Food Services, Rudy Project, Sherwood Golf Club, The Manor Camp John Hay Baguio, Turf Co/Texas Eagle, Unilab (Revicon Max) and Wilson.
