WNCAA: Lyceum, CSB eye solo lead

MANILA, Philippines - Last year’s finals protagonists Lyceum and College of St. Benilde meet anew as they dispute the solo lead in the 41st WNCAA Senior A basketball tournament tomorrow at the Lyceum gym in Intramuros, Manila.

The Lady Pirates tangle with the Lady Blazers in the 2 p.m. main game. The Lady Pirates, eyeing a fifth consecutive crown, swept the Taft-based squad in their best-of-three clash last season and wrapped up their campaign unbeaten in eight matches.

Lyceum and CSB tote similar 2-0 slates, along with idle University of Asia and the Pacific.

In Senior B fight, host Centro Escolar University and Miriam College will part ways after their 9:30 a.m. duel, the winner seizing the lead at 2-0.

In today’s junior games of the tournament being supported by official media partner Philippine Daily Inquirer, Mikasa, Molten, Sonak Sports Trading, official print partner Manila Bulletin, Lenovo, Solar Sports, Monster Radio RX 93.1, Taichi, Mojo, CEMG, Goody and MJC Press, a three-way logjam for No. 1 will ensue if rookie Poveda beats De La Salle Zobel at 9:30 a.m., San Beda prevails over St. Paul at 11 a.m. and St. Stephen’s High School brings down St. Jude Catholic School at 12:30 p.m.

In volleyball, the 10-time defending champion Lyceum is looking at a share of the lead with Rizal Technological University at 2-0 when it goes up against San Beda College Alabang at 2:30 p.m., also tomorrow, at the St. Scholastica gym.

St. Scholastica eyes a 3-0 card and the solo lead in midgets volleyball against DLSZ at 9 a.m. today while defending champion San Beda will catch up with a win over St. Jude at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
