Carcel glitters with KF3 win

MANILA, Philippines - Cebuano Tonyo Carcel of AUTS Racing glittered following his impressive victory in Race 6 recently in the third leg of the 2010 Pagcor Sports KF2-KF3 Cup Series at the Carmona racetrack.

Consistent aggressive driving and strategy keyed Carcel’s big comeback in the afternoon race as he snatched his first KF3 win in this series sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Pagcor Sports and Aeromed.

He started fifth on the grid after the qualifying heat but following the mad scramble at the greenlight, he quickly passed Indonesian Yasuo Senna Iriawan of Red-White Racing, fellow Cebuano Jette Calderon and Japanese Marino Sati to move up third behind Franco Reyes of Jet Racing and Vrei-AR Suba of PCR-Tough Gear Racing-Fern C on the first lap.

On the next lap, he overtook Suba and gave Reyes a wild chase until he wrested the lead on the fifth lap and never looked back.

Carcel clocked 11:.271 in the 15-lap race, a far 6.625 seconds ahead of runner-up Kim Lagman, with Singapore-based Christian Villeneuve of San Miguel Corp.-Maranello-Marcelo Racing claiming third place.

Iriawan ended fourth and Reyes fifth.

Reyes, who prevailed in Race 5, pulled a big escape as he wrapped up the 15-lap race in 10: 51.998.

Sato checked in third while Carcel and Calderon ended fourth and fifth, respectively.

Christian Gaddi of Jet Racing and Basti Escalante split honors after a tight duel in both races of the Mini-OK Challenge.

Gaddi topped Race 5, showing experience and suave driving to complete the 10-lap race in 7:58.660 or a far 3.381 seconds ahead of Escalante.

Lady drivers Kali Carcel of AUTS Racing and Aira Medrano of PCR-Tough Gear Racing-Fern C wound up third and fourth, respectively.

Escalante got back at Gaddi in Race 6, barely surviving as he clocked 7:49.379 or just 0.229 seconds ahead of Gaddi.

Medrano claimed third place just 0.689 seconds behind Escalante while Kali Carcel ended fourth.

The championship round has been moved to December at the Clark International Speedway.
